How Dual Vertical Tripod Turnstiles Operate in Turnstile Gate Systems?
Source:Sintronictech   Author:International Department

A dual vertical tripod turnstile (also known as dual‑movement vertical tripod turnstile) is an advanced waist‑high pedestrian barrier for complete turnstile gate system. Different from standard single‑movement vertical tripod turnstile with only one locking unit, it is equipped with two independent electromechanical mechanisms. Each mechanism controls one‑direction passage, enabling separate permission management for entry and exit within one single lane. It can enforce one‑person‑per‑pass rule in both directions and prevent tail‑gating or unauthorized reverse access. Sintronic dual vertical tripod turnstiles have been deployed for overseas access‑control projects including Kuwait and Saudi Arabia pedestrian‑gate reference projects.

Core Working Principle of Dual Vertical Tripod Turnstile

Sintronic dual vertical tripod turnstile follows bi‑directional access workflow: Direction‑specific Credential Verification → Independent Signal Input → Respective Mechanism Unlock → 120° Rotation → Auto Re‑lock. Full operation steps are shown below.

1. Standby locked status

Under normal standby condition, both inbound and outbound electromechanical locking assemblies stay engaged. Tripod arms for entry and exit directions remain locked. Bi‑directional LED indicators show red light for no‑access status, waiting for direction‑valid authorization signals.

2. Direction‑specific credential verification & signal input

Pedestrians present valid credentials (RFID IC card, QR‑code, fingerprint or face recognition) for the corresponding travel direction. Access‑control readers send Wiegand or dry‑contact signals to the turnstile main‑control board. The controller distinguishes whether the request is for entry or exit lane direction.

3. Independent mechanism unlock action

Receiving valid authorization for one direction only, the control board releases the locking unit for that corresponding direction, while keeping the opposite‑direction mechanism fully locked.

  • Semi‑automatic model: Solenoid lock releases; pedestrian manually pushes tripod arms to rotate 120° for passage.

  • Fully‑automatic model: Built‑in brushless motor drives tripod arms to rotate automatically without manual pushing.

4. Passage completion and automatic re‑lock

After one complete 120‑degree rotation, built‑in position sensor detects passage completion. The corresponding‑direction tripod mechanism immediately re‑locks automatically. Only one authorized person can pass for each valid credential in that direction. LED indicator switches back to red, returning to standby mode for next user. The opposite direction remains locked throughout this whole process.

5. Emergency power‑off safety function

When main power supply fails, the integrated drop‑arm safety mechanism triggers. Both‑direction tripod arms drop horizontally, clearing the whole passage for free pedestrian evacuation to meet public‑building fire‑safety codes.
