Operation of Speed Gate Turnstile in Modern Turnstile Gate Access Solution
Source:Sintronictech   Author:International Department

A speed gate turnstile (also known as optical speed gate) is a premium‑grade high‑throughput pedestrian barrier within a complete turnstile gate system. Different from wing turnstile or swing turnstile, it adopts slim‑profile cabinet, high‑speed servo motor and dense multi‑pair infrared optical sensor matrix. It delivers ultra‑fast opening‑closing cycle and precise anti‑tailgating & anti‑reversal detection, ideal for high‑traffic premium‑grade indoor lobbies. It supports multiple credential modes including RFID card, QR‑code, fingerprint and facial recognition. Sintronic speed gate turnstiles have been deployed for overseas access‑control projects including Kuwait and Saudi Arabia pedestrian‑gate reference projects.

Core Working Principle of Speed Gate Turnstile

Sintronic speed gate turnstile follows high‑throughput premium‑lobby access‑control workflow: Credential Validation → Signal Input → High‑Speed Barrier Opening → Optical Matrix Passage Monitoring → Auto Barrier Closing & Lock. Full‑cycle operation steps are described as follows.

1. Standby locked status

Under normal standby condition, glass barrier panels stay in closed blocking position. Dense infrared optical sensor matrix continuously scans the full lane area. LED indicator shows red light and waits for valid authorization signal.

2. Credential verification & signal input

Pedestrians present valid credentials: RFID IC card, QR‑code, fingerprint or facial recognition. After identity validation passes, external reader sends Wiegand or dry‑contact signal to speed gate turnstile main‑control board.

3. Servo‑motor‑driven fast barrier opening

Upon receiving valid pass signal, high‑speed servo‑motor drives glass barrier panels to retract rapidly. LED status changes to green, opening the lane for pedestrian entry. Typical opening cycle completes within 0.3‑0.8 seconds for high‑density‑flow scenarios.

4. Optical‑matrix real‑time passage monitoring

During pedestrian passing, dense infrared optical sensor matrix continuously tracks pedestrian moving position, travelling direction and quantity of people inside lane. ‑ Anti‑tailgating: System triggers audio‑visual alarm if second person attempts to sneak through under single‑authorization credential. ‑ Anti‑reversal detection: Detects reverse‑direction intrusion attempt and keeps barriers locked with alarm output. ‑ Anti‑pinch safety: If obstacle is detected during barrier‑closing movement, servo‑motor immediately stops or reverses movement to avoid hurting pedestrians or personal belongings.

5. Automatic barrier closing and return to locked standby

After the pedestrian fully clears all infrared sensor beams, control board triggers servo‑motor to push barrier panels back to fully‑extended locked position. LED turns back to red and turnstile returns to standby for next user.

6. Emergency power‑off safety function

When main power supply fails, built‑in fail‑safe mechanism activates. Barrier panels automatically retract fully into cabinet, completely clearing passage for emergency evacuation, complying with public‑building fire‑safety requirements.
